A hair salon project designed for a basement environment where natural light is limited, in which the quality and perception of space are carefully calibrated through the manipulation of light, color, and materials.
In the approach sequence, the material shifts from porcelain-tiled stairs to sisal flooring, creating a transition from the hardness of an urban setting to the softness of natural materials.
From the entrance into the interior, the space is unified not in pure white but in a beige-toned palette, compensating for the lack of natural light while establishing a gentle continuity throughout.
Across the styling stations, reception, and shampoo area, colors are deployed in restrained variations within a similar tonal range. Rather than strong contrasts, the space is composed through subtle gradations with minimal differences. Variations in lighting intensity further produce nuanced environmental shifts specific to each zone.
Additionally, by using the same tile material for both the floor and the customer counters, a continuous visual and spatial flow is established from the entrance toward the back. Instead of segmenting the space by function, continuity is achieved through material consistency.
Meanwhile, in elements such as the restroom wash area, colored grout is introduced within the tile joints, inserting localized rhythm and accents into the otherwise subdued palette. These features are not simply concealed but redefined as elements to be visually engaged with.
